Once again the GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN is making history. This year’s 7th GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN is already sold out five months before its start on September 3. “We are glad about the enormous level of interest in this fascinating running event. The GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN has made a name for itself as a top running event on the international stage. The adventure “crossing of the Alps” has runners spellbound the world over, that is something we can be proud of,” rejoices Uta Albrecht, project manager of the GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN.
International field of participants
30 nations will be present at the seventh edition of this eight-day Alpine crossing. The highest participation numbers will again this year be from Spain, which is represented by 46 teams.  Dennis and Russell will be taking the longest journey arriving from New Zealand. It will be a trip of over 20,000 km for the two New Zealanders in order to take on those 260 km and 15,000 m of altitude difference from Oberstdorf to Latsch. This year there will be a team from Mexico taking part and even Honduras will be present.

Mixed Category very popular
In the five classification categories Men, Women, Mixed, Masters and Senior Masters, there’ll be 94 teams in the mixed category alone. The fact that the GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN is also very popular with older athletes is reflected by 79 registered teams in the category Master Men. Following only in third place is the category «Men,» which consists of 70 teams. The category Senior Masters, newly introduced last year, is also quite popular: 30 teams of participants who are 50 years of age or older will take part this year. There will be 25 women teams in this year’s race.

Wait-list for interested athletes
For all those that don’t want to pass up the opportunity to enjoy the special atmosphere of this cult event and still want to reserve a chance at a starting spot, a wait-list has been set up. “People interested in the event can still register online, they will then receive a confirmation from us informing them that we’ve added their names to the wait-list,” explains Uta Albrecht.

The West Route 2011
At the 7th edition of the race, the West Route will take the 250 two-person teams from the start in Oberstdorf first into Kleinwalsertal and then further on to Schruns. The Kleinwalsertal and Schruns are making their debut this year as stage host cities. From Schruns, the course leads via Galtür to Scuol, where on the fifth day the mountain sprint will take place. The course then continues from Switzerland into southern Tyrol. Via Mals and Schlanders, runners will after eight days reach the finish in Latsch.

International importance
The GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN has by now developed from a running adventure for exotics into a high-quality athletic competition where hobby athletes and top runners are being rewarded for their daily strains with fantastic nature experiences and a nice family atmosphere. Not only does the GORE-TEX® TRANSALPINE-RUN belong to the toughest stage runs, it has meanwhile become one of the most important running events for mountain and trail runners all over the world.

  2. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
